The Story Of Marisol...

The light we all share, the object that lights the earth, the food for growth. Marisol, is a woman who shared the sun of Barcelona, with a group of five students.

As I entered a park at the forefront of Park Guil, I noticed a woman laying a small black cloth on the eroded rock. On the streets of Barcelona, it is common to see people selling knock-off Coach bags and fake Oakley's- on large white clothes. However, she had a different presence. I watched her meticulously cover the small square in Jewelry. As I approached, she extended her hand and placed a ring in mine. She asked that I looked carefully at it and explained the meaning behind the small turquoise-colored inlaid bead. As my friends joined, she repeated explaining each color and style. Her passion for her work exuded through her smile. She clasped a wire bracelet with a blue ocean bead on my wrist, which I wear today. She stood below us and held herself as an equal. We started asking simple questions, leading us to us to admire her. She thanked us repeatedly and explained we are her freedom, as she is from Columbia.

She admired our friendship and gave us strict instructions to keep them- as friendships are irreplaceable and the most important thing. Then in her own language (which one of us translated), she explained that everyone has a different perspective of love. To her, love is everything; including respect and we are to respect love. As I left, she held my hand in hers as I thanked her. We all left with a new perspective of life, otherwise untold. We then understood why her name translated to sun, fitting her perfectly in every aspect.
